Bahati Blue, from the Rift to the cup

Bahati Blue Farm, nestled in Nakuru County, northwest of Nairobi, spans 7 hectares at an altitude of over 2,000 meters. Run by the couple Sheila and Alkis, it is home to approximately 21,000 coffee trees planted in 2012. The farm primarily cultivates the Ruiru 11 and Batian varieties, renowned for their resilience and refined aromatic profile. Thanks to the rich volcanic soils and a climate tempered by Lake Nakuru, the farm produces coffees of remarkable quality every year.

Process

Variety: Arabica, Batian, Ruiru 11

Grain processing: Washed

After the perfectly ripe cherries are hand-picked, they are carefully sorted to retain only the healthiest. They then undergo a pulping process to separate the pulp from the beans. Next comes controlled fermentation, essential for developing aromatic complexity. The beans are then washed and slowly sun-dried on raised African beds for 12 days. Finally, a final sorting and packaging in airtight bags ensure that their quality is preserved until roasting.
